What to Expect
Starting preschool is an exciting milestone for children and families. At Beaumont Children’s Center, we strive to make the transition smooth and provide parents with a clear understanding of daily routines, policies, and the environment where their children will learn and grow.
At Beaumont Children’s Center, children grow and learn each day through:
a calm, unhurried daily rhythm
respectful guidance and thoughtful language
child-led, emergent learning
hands-on, authentic experiences
open-ended process art
storytelling and conversation
music and movement
daily outdoor play, rain or shine
organic baked goods and fresh, simple foods
Preparing for School
Preparing your child for a Successful preschool experience:
We encourage you to bring your child in for a brief visit prior to your child’s first day of school. This will help toward a comfortable, secure adjustment to the new surroundings. It is sometimes helpful to make a few short visits until you and your child feel comfortable in our school.
Bilingual Learning Environment
Children are exposed to language in meaningful, natural ways throughout the day to support cognitive and social development. As a Mandarin and English bilingual preschool, both languages are part of daily routines, classroom activities, and play.
During circle time, children enjoy songs, stories, and interactive activities. Throughout the day, they hear and practice vocabulary for shapes, colors, counting, and familiar routines in many contexts, including play, meals, transitions, and outdoor time. This natural exposure helps children become comfortable using and understanding both languages.
Play-Based Curriculum
Learning happens through hands-on exploration, guided activities, creative expression, and social interaction rather than worksheets or rigid academic instruction.
Small Group Setting and Outdoor Experiences
We stay small so your child can grow. Our small enrollment allows for individualized attention and flexibility in daily routines. Weather permitting, children participate in outdoor activities such as neighborhood walks, outdoor snacks/lunch, and active play.
Respect for Diversity
We welcome children and families from all backgrounds and encourage cultural sharing within our community.
School Holidays
Holidays are discussed and some of the celebrations include: Chinese New Year, Halloween costume party, Thanksgiving feast, Christmas and Hanukkah celebrations, Valentines exchange, Easter egg hunt, making cards and gifts for Mother’s and Father’s days and the 4th of July.
We encourage parents to share with us any other special customs and/or holidays their families celebrate. We like to have the children participate in and learn about as many diverse cultural experiences as possible.
The center is open year round, but will be closed for holidays and vacation time as noted on the calendar distributed each year to parents. We follow the Portland Public Schools for closure due to inclement weather.
Inclement Weather Policy
We follow Portland Public Schools Schedule for Inclement Weather. If they start late, we start late. If they are closed, we are closed.
This is for safety for all.
